School children to plant 3 lakh saplings
Chandigarh, Aug 19 (UNI) The Punjab Government has launched a massive "Green School" drive in all the state schools where students of more than 17,000 institutions would plant approximately three lakh saplings.
Disclosing this here today, Eucation Minister Upinderjit Kaur said that this drive would imbibe the spirit of conservation of plants amongst students. The idea is to make the students aware of the depleting forest cover.
The Minister said that the District Forest Officers (DFOs) would provide the saplings of 45 varieties free of cost to the schools and the Forest Rangers as well as Forest Guards would supervise this drive.
She further said that the school heads have also been instructed to plant atleast ten saplings in their school premises and to honour those students who keep the plantations healthy.
