Jaipur, Aug 19(UNI) Saint Gobain, a Paris based world leader in building materials, will soon set up a new world class glass complex in Bhiwadi in Rajasthan involving an investment of Rs 1,000 crore.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for setting up of the group's first project in Northern India, was signed between the Rajasthan Government and the company representatives here today in the presence of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
Saint Gobain India Managing Director B Santhanam and Company South Asia General Delegate Anand Y Mahajan, Rajasthan Industries Minister Digambar Singh and several dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
The proposed glass complex in Bhiwadi will be situated about 65 Kms from Delhi and will house a multitude of manufacturing facilities similar to World Glass Complex in Chennai, Mr Santhanam said.
The new plant would manufacture 3,00,000 tonnes of glass per annum and will be operational by the first quarter of 2010.
The plant will generate a demand of 800 tonnes of mineral raw material per day which will be catered by mines situation in Karauli, Dausa and Jodhpur districts in Rajasthan and would employ over 1,000 personnel in its first phase of operation, he added.
