Notices issued to pvt bus operators on fare hike

Puducherry,Aug 19(UNI)Transport Commissioner Khannaji today issued notice to private bus operators who hiked fares without permission from the government.

The notices were issued to the leaders of the Puducherry Motor Transport Association,Puducherry Town Bus Operators Assocation and Puducherry Private Bus Operators Association.

Following this,the leaders of the associations met Mr Khannaji and held discussions. They were told the decision to enhance bus fare without seeking government's permission was punishable and asked to withdraw it immediately.

When the operators drew his attention to the losses being incurred by them due to higher fuel costs, Mr Khannaji said the government was taking steps to mitigate the loss and the file in this regard was ready. It would soon be implemented, he added.

Following this, the bus operators assured Mr Khannaji that they would conevene their general body meeting tomorrow and take a decision on withdrawing the bus fare hike.

The private bus operators enhanced fare from 50 paisa to Re one with effect from yesterday.
