Goa to approach apex court for reducing fishing ban period

Panaji, Aug 19 (UNI) Goa government has planned to approach the Supreme Court soon, praying for rescheduling the 45-day period of ban on fishing to benefit the fishing community in the state.

Replying to a debate on budget demand for fisheries, minister Joaquim Alemao told the state legislative assembly that the catch had been dropping despite observing the ban from June 15 to July 31, now in vogue in all the maritime states.

As such, the government had decided to seek permission of the court for observing the ban from May 30 to July 15. He sought cooperation of the members.
