We are pleased Musharraf has resigned: Geelani

Srinagar, Aug 18 (UNI) Celebrating the resignation of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani today said people of the Jammu and Kashmir were happy now.

Mr Musharraf announced his resignation during his address to his nation while Mr Geelani was on way to Tourist Reception Group (TRC) to address a public meeting this afternoon.

''I want to give you a happy news that the man who caused major damage to Kashmir issue during the past eight years- 'Musharraf' has gone as he was rejected by the people of Pakistan,'' Mr Geelani said, addressing the people who had come from all parts of the valley to attend the meeting.

''Musharraf has now resigned,'' Mr Geelani said adding that he was responsible for not only damaging the Kashmir issue, but the Islamic world also.

Mr Geelani said that for his personal reasons, Gen Musharraf made compromises with India on Kashmir ''at the cost of our sacrifices.'' The Hurriyat Chairman said he had also damaged and sacrificed the interests of Pakistan and surrendered before the US.
