Traffic blocked on Hoshiarpur-Dasuya road over desecration
Hoshiarpur, Aug 18 (UNI) Activists of Satkar Sabha, Ambala Jattan staged a day-long dharna and blocked vehicular traffic at Garhdiwala on Hoshiarpur-Dasuya road here today to protest against the police inaction regarding desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib at Gurdwara Sri Guru Ravi Dass in the village on July 27.
An FIR under section 295 A of the IPC had been registered in Garhdiwala police station regarding some miscreants desecrating the holy Sri Guru Grant Sahib in the village Gurdwara during the night intervening between July 26 and July 27.
On August 1, the Sikh followers had given an ultimatum to the police to arrest the persons responsible for desecrating Sri Guru Grant Sahib or otherwise they would be forced to ''take direct action''.
As the police had failed in arresting the culprits, the activists of Satkar Sabha, led by their President Rashpal Singh, today staged about eight-hour-long dharna and blocked vehicular traffic.
Later, SDM Dasuya, Rahul Chaba intervened and on his assurance that the culprits would be arrested within the next 15 days, they lifted the dharna and traffic was resumed.
