RLD crticises UP govt for not contesting case effectively
Lucknow, Aug 18 (UNI) The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) today held responsible the Uttar Pradesh government for not contesting the petition, challenging the State Advisory Price (SAP) for the sugarcane farmers, properly.
RLD state general secretary Munna Singh Chauhan said the state government should file a Special Litigation Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court (SC).
Mr Chauhan said the party would move the SLP in the Supreme Court, if the UP government would not do so.
Quoting an earlier order, the RLD leader said that in 2005, a five Judge bench of the apex court had ruled that the state government possesses the right to decide upon the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of sugarcane.
Recently, a Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court had also passed a similar order, he said.
''Had the state government contested the case by mentioning the above two decisions, the HC would have not quashed its SAP for the cane farmers today,'' Mr Chauhan alleged.
