MP's BJP regime only makes announcements: Kamalnath

Bhopal, Aug 18 (UNI) Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamalnath today alleged that Madhya Pradesh's Bharatiya Janata Party regime made only announcements and did not bring about any development over the past four-and-a-half years.

''The BJP has played with this state's future. Only one per cent development took place and the state is counted among the most backward,'' he said here at a conference of civic bodies' representatives organised by the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan talks of development but the people should be told what was done so far, the visiting leader said while adding that the Chief Minister was making major announcements to divert public attention from problems.

''The Centre's debt waiver scheme has benefitted lakhs of farmers. Plentiful economic assistance is being provided for central schemes in this state,'' Mr Kamalnath claimed while issuing a clarion call to civic bodies' representatives -- gathered from across Madhya Pradesh -- to make the masses aware of the BJP government's erroneous policies, misuse of funds meant for central schemes and corruption.

MPCC President Suresh Pachouri said that lack of infrastructure development in rural areas was resulting in an exodus to the cities and thereby affecting the latter's development.

''The state regime is taking the credit for central schemes. A sum of about Rs 308 crore was ayed for bringing Narmada water here but the scheme is being affected as the state government is not providing its share,'' he alleged.

The programme was also addressed by Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jamuna Devi and Mayor Sunil Sood.
