Cong to give priority to BC candidates in general elections
Hyderabad, Aug 18 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has said the Congress would give priority to people from Backward Classes (BCs) while allocating seats for the 2009 general elections in the state.
In a release here today, Dr Reddy said the government had decided to provide 33 per cent reservation to the BCs in Legislative Bodies and a resolution in this regard would be adopted in the Monsoon Session of the Assembly.
Claiming that his government had nominated BC candidates to the posts of Vice Chancellors in majority of the universities, he said the scholarship for BC students was increased after the Congress came to power.
The party was committed to the social and political uplift of the BCs, Dr Reddy added.
