Vajra corps deployed in flood hit areas

Jalandhar, Aug 18: A total of 11 army columns of Vajra Corps have been deployed in the flood hit areas of Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Moga and Ferozepur.

According to a defence release, the army has pressed 33 motorboats and 22 medical teams into service. So far close to eighteen hundred civilians including women and children have been rescued and brought to safe places.

Around fifty thousand sandbags have been utilised to prevent further breaching of the bunds. In addition, essential commodities including food and tents are being provided to the people.
