20-yr-old succumbs to leptospirosis, toll rises to 106
Mumbai, Aug 18 (UNI) A 20-year-old man today succumbed to leptospirosis in the metropolis, taking the death toll due to rain-related diseases to 106, since the onset of the monsoon.
According to civic officials, the patient died at KEM hospital within a few hours of his admission.
During the weekend, four people died due to various rain-related diseases. Of them, two persons succumbed to malaria, one each in KEM and Nair hospital, and one each due to leptospirosis and dengue at Bhagwati and Sion hospital.
During the last 24 hrs, 169 patients were admitted with fever, 31 with gastroenteritis, one each with leptospirosis and dengue, and 52 with malaria to various civic-run hospitals in the city, officials added.
