17 held for attack on tribal settlement in Mah
Nashik, Aug 18 (UNI) As many as 17 people were arrested for allegedly attacking a tribal settlement in Thangaon village of Yeola taluka of the district.
According to police sources, following a dispute over cattle entering farms of the tribals, a mob of 40 people attacked the tribal settlement at Gujarkheda in Thangaon village of Yeola taluka of the district yesterday. The mob allegedly beat the tribals, in which a woman was injured. The mob also burnt a hut as well as damaged eight others. This created tension in the village for some time.
Two complaints have been registered in this regard. As per the complaint lodged by Bharat Khurasane, a case has been registered against 40 people under sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 436, 324, 504, 506 of the Indian Penal Code, section 3(1)(10) of the Scheduled Caste/Tribe Atrocity (Prevention) Act and section 135 of the Mumbai Police Act. As per the complaint lodged by Shivram Suryavanshi of the other group, a case has been registered against six people under sections 143, 144, 147, 148, 149, 324, 323, 504, 506 of the IPC and section 37(A) of the Mumbai Police Act.
The situation is now under control as adequate vigil has been kept in the village, sources added.
