Tripura CM demands modification of service rule for teachers
Agartala, August 17 (UNI) Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar today demanded the centre to make it mandatory for the university teachers from across the country to serve in the Northeast, at least for two years in the service life.
Addressing a gathering in Tripura Institute of Technology on its golden jubilee celebration, Mr Sarkar asked Tripura University Vice- Chancellor, Arunodoya Saha, to take up the matter in the Northeast VC Forum and exert pressure on the central government on the issue.
He also urged the Union government to sanction more incentive for educational development in the region.
Mr Sarkar said that the demand for modification of service provisions of university teachers had been taken up with the visiting UGC team and the state government would forward the proposal to Union Human Resource Development ministry soon.
"Since educational infrastructure in the Northeast is comparatively poor than other parts of the country, Centre has to consider the proposal for the mandatory posting of university teachers in the region to balance the academic growth of the nation", Mr Sarkar pointed out.
The issue had already been discussed in various forum at different levels and it requires persuasion with the ministry now, which could be done by the VCs of the Universities in the Northeast, Mr Sarkar added.
