President, PM celebrate 'rakhi' with school children

New Delhi, Aug 16 (UNI) President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today celebrated 'Raksha Bandhan' with a number of school children, who visited them to extend greetings of the festival.

Ms Patil met a group of 70 children, including some mentally and physically challenged, from Delhi and surrounding towns at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The President said she was happy that the children of the country knew the importance of the festival of Raksha Bandhan, which symbolises inseparable bond between a brother and a sister.

''Everyone needs to spread the message of love and the spirit of helping one another across the country. India is known for its emotional integrity and all problems whatever they may be, can be solved through discussions,'' she added.

The President and the Prime Minister spent some time with the children and distributed sweets to them.

The children tied 'rakhi' on Dr Singh's wrist.
