Hockey did well in my tenure: Gill
Dhar, MP, Aug 16 (UNI) Former Indian Hockey Federation president K P S Gill has denied that the sport's performance was disappointing during his tenure.
''India bagged medals in the Asia Cup and Commonwealth Games during my decade-long tenure,'' the former Indian Police Service officer said in response to media queries here.
He was chief guest at a social harmony programme organised by the voluntary organisation Gautam Group on the eve of Independence Day.
Expressing disappointment over the national team being knocked out of contention in the qualifying round of the Beijing Olympics, Gill said, ''there is dearth of astroturf grounds in our country and the government should pay attention to that. For more Olympic golds, swimming, gymnastics and athletics should receive more focus, young sportspersons must be better trained and their physical stamina boosted,'' he said.
