Talks to avoid impeachment underway: Azim
Islamabad, Aug 16 : A senior PML-Q leader has said that talks were underway to avoid the impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf, and that the process, if begins on Monday, might continue even on for a few months.
The PML-Q leader, Tariq Azim said that the Impeachment of President would be very damaging for the country's economy.
"This impeachment process, which can last months, will be very damaging especially for the country's economy. The purpose of these talks is to settle the issue and there are many options under consideration," the Daily Times quoted Azim as saying.
Asked if the talks could lead to Musharraf's resignation as reported in several Western newspapers, Azim said: "My belief is that the president does not intend to leave the country."
Another option, he said, was for Musharraf to become a "figurehead" President.
