Territory to celebrates 46th I-Day on Aug 16

Puducherry, Aug 15: The Union Territory of Puducherry will celebrate its 46th Indpendence Day on Saturday, Aug 16.

On August 16, 1962, the 'de jure' (legal merger of the union territory with the Indian Union) came into being after the French Parliament ratified the treaty of cession.

Freedom fighters, who fought for the liberation of Puducherry from French colonialism, will be honoured on the occasion.
