Jaya criticises TN Govt
Chennai, Aug 15 (UNI) Accusing the Tamil Nadu government of rejecting pension to an 86-year-old freedom fighter in Ariyalur district, AIADMK General secretary J Jayalalithaa today announced a solatium of Rs one lakh to his family on behalf of the party.
In a statement here, she said at a time when we were celebrating the Independence day, the DMK government has arrested the family members of freedom fighters in Ramanathapuram district and denied pension to freedom fighter Subramani.
She said Mr Subramani, hailing from Muthuservamadam in Ariyalur district, was struggling and failed to get pension from the government.
Even after the Supreme Court directed the state government to sympathatically consider his plea for pension, the DMK government turned a deaf ear and rejected his demand, she alleged.
Condemning the DMK government for its attitude, Ms Jayalalithaa announced Rs One lakh as family welfare fund to Subramani's family.
If Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was really interested in preserving the hard earned freedom, he should grant pension to freedom fighters and come forward to remove the problems faced by their family members, she said.
