Ishmet gets Punjab State Award posthumously

Ludhiana, Aug 15 (UNI) Star 'Voice of India' winner, the late Ishmet Singh, whose voice had charmed a million hearts all over the country and abroad was today confered the Punjab State Award posthumously for his outstanding contrbution in the field of music and singing during his short life span.

The award was presented by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to the late singers parents at the state level Independence Day function here today. With moist eyes the parents received the award from the Chief Minister.

Ishmeet drowned in a swimming pool in a hotel in Male while on a promotional tour to the Maldives last month.

The award comprises a gold medal, a certificate, a shawl and a cheque of Rs 11,000.

The Punjab Government has already announced to set up a music academy in memory of the late singer.
