HP govts 'Atal Bijili Yojana' would save 270 million units
Shimla, Aug 15 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) would save 270 million units power per annum through the implementation of the ambitious 'Atal Bijili Bachat Yojna' launched by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on the occasion of Independence Day today.
A HPSEB spokesman said that this scheme would also reduce carbon emission in the atmosphere to extent of 188496 CO2 Metric Tone.
The scheme would pave the way to replace incandescent bulbs from the state by promoting the eco-friendly Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL), he said.
HPSEB will provide 4 CFLs to each family in the state which would benefit about 1.65 lakh families. HPSEB initially would invest Rs 80 crore in the scheme.
He said that the cost of incandescent bulb was very cheap as compared to CFL but the shelf life of the latter was six times more.
The spokesman claimed that a 20 watt CFL gives the same light as a 100 watt incandescent bulb.
He said that the scheme shall also be eligible for earning Carbon Credit under Clean Development Mechanism as per Kyoto protocol.
The scheme is only for domestic costumers and would help them to reduce their energy bills to the tune of 30 to 40 per cent per month, he added.
