Farmer washed away due to flash floods in Punjab
Kapurthala, Aug 15 (UNI) A farmer was washed away while he was crossing his flooded fields at Sheikhmanga village in the Sultanpur Lodhi sub division of the district today.
The body of the deceased, identified as Gurdev Singh, has not been recovered so far. The death toll in weather related incidents has now risen to 13 in the last four to five days.
Reports here said two houses collapsed at Toti Pind village.
However, there was no loss of life.
Meanwhile, the Kali Bein rivulet has created a flood like situation in about a dozen villages falling in Sultanpur Lodhi and Kapurthala sub divisions. The Bein has flooded the fields at villages Ahli Kalan, Ahli Khurd, Sarupwal, Bharoana, Sheikhmanga, Nawan Pind Gatewala and Kokalpur.
The reports said those residing in low lying areas along with Beas and Sutlej rivers in several districts of Punjab have been shifted to safer places.
Rains continued to lash several parts of Punjab for the fourth successive day leading to flash floods in seasonal rivulets and drains in Hoshiarpur and Ropar districts.
