Andaman to develop 36 new sites for promotion of tourism
Port Blair, Aug 15 (UNI) On the occasion of Independence Day the Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands today announced that 36 new tourist sites would be developed for promotion of tourism in these far-flung Indian Islands.
'' We are committed to transforming these beautiful islands into the best tourist destination of this world and there are proposals for developing all these 36 new tourist spots,'' Mr Bhopinder Singh, the Lt Governor of Andaman, said in his Independence Day speech this morning.
He said there are also proposal of purchasing helicopters for the purpose.
For the entertainment and amusement of the islanders as well as visiting tourists Andaman and Nicobar Administration is giving facelift to the water sports complex and its surrounding area of Port Blair, Singh said.
The Lt Governor said in the water sports complex safe water sports and adventurous water sports facilities would be provided for everybody.
Addressing Andaman and Nicobar Islands on the occasion of 62nd Independence Day, the Lt Governor told the gathering about the achievements of local administration and initiatives taken for faster development of these Islands.
In the morning the Lt Governor laid wreath at Martyrs column at National Memorial Cellular Jail before hoisting the flag at the historic Netaji Stadium.
Later he received the Guard of Honour at Netaji Stadium and presented medals, gallantry awards and distribution of commendation certificates to various individuals drawn from different professions of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
