Governor calls for concerted efforts to curb militancy
Itanagar, Aug 14 (UNI) Governor Gen (Retd.) J J Singh today exhorted the people to be more vigilant and cooperate with the state machinery to unitedly fight militants trying to destabilize peace in Arunachal Pradesh.
In his Independence Day message the former Army Chief called upon the people to help the administration to fight anti-social elements and get rid of any sense of insecurity. ''Our state has retained the distinction of being the most peaceful state in the entire North Eastern region where people live in peace and harmony amidst its picturesque scenic beauty. But on the other hand, we cannot deny the fact that our state is surrounded by some insurgent elements who are posing a threat to the lives and property of our innocent people and tend to impede development by way of disturbing peace,'' the governor in his message said.
He asked the people to work hard and harness the fruits of independence by ensuring economic empowerment of the poorest of the poor. ''Our people should be focused towards the fact that minimum effort can earn much for them, specially in the activities of fruit production, orchards, flowers, organic farming, handloom and handicrafts, bamboo and rubber plantations, apiculture, eco-tourism etc as our state is blessed with great variety of flora and fauna and other gifts of natural resources,'' he said.
Recalling the sacrifices made by various freedom fighters, the governor called upon the people to put their shoulder behind the historical developmental programmes envisioned by the Centre and the state and to push hard towards progress and prosperity.
