Four killed, 30 injured in fresh violence in Kashmir
Srinagar, Aug 14 (UNI) Four people were killed and 25 wounded when Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police opened fire, burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators in different parts of the valley overnight.
Hundreds of people today took to the streets at Safa Kadal in the down town, protesting against the alleged atrocities by the CRPF and killing of more than 25 people and injuries to 600 others in the valley during the past four days.
Official sources said when the protesters were marching towards the main road, security forces opened fire, causing injuries to two people.
One of the injured, identified as Tanvir Ahmad Handoo, a resident of Later Masjid, died before he could be shifted to hospital.
Another person with bullet injuries was admitted to hospital.
Later, people from adjoining areas also joined the demonstrators, raising pro-freedom and anti-CRPF and anti-police slogans. They attacked a police station in the area, sources said.
One person of Kaw Mohalla, who was admitted to hospital after he was hit by a teargas shell in the chest, died in the hospital today.
Reports of protests were also received from other parts of the city.
