Flood alert sounded in Cauvery basin

Mysore, Aug 14 (UNI) With the inflow in the Cauvery basin reservoirs increasing, the authorities have decided to release excess water from the Krishnaraja Sagar reservoir, which touched its maximum level yesterday.

The major dam continued to receive heavy inflow of 71,226 cusecs following inflow of water from Kodagu district. The level was being maintained at 123.92 feet for the safety of the reservoir.

The authorities have sounded flood alert in the downstream of the dam and asked people residing on the river banks to move to safer places.

The Kabini reservoir continued to release water in the Cauvery river as the level was already full to capacity.

As incessant rains continued in Hassan district, the Hemavathy reservoir touched its maximum level after an inflow of 45,000 cusecs. The authorities released more than 40,000 cusecs of water into river Cauvery.

Train service between Mangalore-Bangalore has been stopped following landside at Adakumari village near Subramanya disrupting vehicular traffic on National Highway 48.

The district authorities were assessing the estimate of loss of crop and other property.
