VHP's 'chakka jam' agitation evokes good response across Gujarat

Ahmedabad, Aug 13 (UNI) A nationwide bandh call given by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) to protest against revocation of the order transferring land to the Amarnath Shrine Board, evoked good response in Gujarat.

The VHP activists in different parts of the state including Surat, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Saurashtra and Kutch, squatted on the roads and barricaded them from 0900 hrs to 1100 hrs, disrupting the vehicular traffic across the state for two hours. They also shouted slogans to press for their demand for return of the land to Amarnath Shrine Board. At some places, police had to detain agitators.

Earlier, Gujarat BJP did not join a nationwide bandh call given by central BJP in Amarnath controversy on July 3 because of traditional Lord Jagannath Rathyatra in the city.
