VHP activists stage 'Chakka Jam' in Mumbai, Thane Dist

Mumbai, Aug 13 (UNI) The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists, as part of nationwide protest, today staged 'Chakka Jam' in many parts of the city, its suburbs and the adjoining Thane district to press for their demand to restore land to Sri Amernath Shrine Board (SASB).

Police control room sources here said a group of 50-60 activists of VHP came onto the streets at Sion, Malad, D B Marg, Kandivali and other places, disrupting vehicular traffic for more than an hour in the morning.

However, traffic was later restored by the police.

In Thane district, a similar agitation was staged at Naupada and Kuparwadi areas, they said.

At a few places, some activists even courted arrest, the control room sources added.

However, the suburban train services, the lifeline of the city, were running normal, railway sources said.
