Six workers drown in Dam

Puttur, Karnataka, Aug 13 (UNI) In a tragic incident, six people, who went to switch on the water pump of Neerakatte Dam at Veale in Bajatthur village, near here were feared drowned today.

According to police, they went missing after torrential rains inundated the area in the early hours.

The missing workers hailing from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, who were in the pump shed of Neerakatte Power Project located five km from Uppinangady, were on night duty when flash floods entered the shed through shutters submerging the area.

Despite gushing of floodwaters, search operations were on and divers were making all out efforts to trace them, sources added.
