Balasore, Aug 13 (UNI) A developed version of the indigenously built Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher System (MBRLS) ''Pinaka'' was today successfully test fired from the Proof and Experimental Establishment of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-Sea, about 15 kms from here.
ITR sources said the rocket, a state-of-the-art weapon for destroying or neutralising enemy troops, with a range of 40 kms, was fired thrice between 1214 hours and 1330 hours.
While the first Pinaka was tested at 1214 hours, the second and third tests were carried out at 1302 and 1330 hours.
Pinaka has the capability to fire 12 rockets with 1.2 tonnes of high explosives in 44 seconds. The rocket has been test fired several times in the past from the ITR.
Pinaka has a launching vehicle, loader-cum-replenishment vehicle and a post command vehicle. It has been under trial by the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) since 1995.
ITR sources said the developed version of the Pinaka was a highly sophisticated, high mobility system and saturation weapon system.
