BJP, VHP workers arrested on Amarnath agitation

Chennai, Aug 13 (UNI) At least 4,000 workers of the frontline Hindu organisations like BJP, VHP and Hindu Munnani were arrested across Tamil Nadu when they staged a 'road-roko' agitation condemning the Centre's 'indifferent' attitude towards the ongoing Amarnath land dispute in Jammu and Kashmir and the subsequent violence.

The agitation was part of the nationwide stir called by the BJP and the VHP.

Among those arrested included BJP State President L Ganesan, National Secretary Su.Thirunavukkarasar, State Secretary Tamilisai Soundararajan and VHP Joint Secretary Veerapahu.

In his address, Mr Ganesan condemned the Jammu and Kashmir Government for revoking the order allotting land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) for providing facilities to pilgrims.

''We will not stop until the Amarnath land is given back to the Shrine Board,'' he added.

The agitators raised slogans against Central Government and the Jammu and Kashmir Governor, condemning the violence.

Traffic on the arterial Anna Salai was affected for nearly an hour due to the agitation.
