Soren throws a 48-hours ultimatum to UPA

New Delhi, Aug 12: The JMM has served a 48-hour ultimatum to the United Progressive Alliance leaders to decide on the post of chief minister for the JMM chief. The party has called a meeting on Aug 17 to decide the future course of action. The JMM had made it clear that it would take drastic steps if Soren was not made Chief Minister. Madhu Koda, the now Chief Minister of Jharkhand has reacted sharply to the news. Untill Monday, Aug 11 Koda had not agrred to step-down even though UPA has promised a 'position at the Centre'" to mollify him.

Make me Chief Minister of J'khand or...

New Delhi, Aug 12: Days after July 22 trust vote where UPA won hands-down, the promises and assurances made by Manmohan, Sonia Gandhi is creeping up on them.

Jharkhand Mukthi Morcha (JMM) chief Shibu Soren met Manmohan Singh on Tuesday, Aug 12 and pressurised him to come true on his words. Soren is demanding Chief Ministership of Jharkhand and asked Madhu Koda to quit soon or else the support in the state will be withdrawn. Sonia Gandhi was present at the meet. Soren said, "UPA high command has directed Madhu Koda to resign and facilitate my oath taking. I will take oath as new CM as soon has he resigns there".

The JMM leader also claimed that besides Chief Ministership to him, the party will be getting two portfolios, one cabinet rank and a minister for state berth, at the Centre.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh, when contacted, saw no problem in agreeing to the new JMM strategy. "We"ve no problems at all. The prime minister"s dealing with it and we"ll all adhere to this," he said.
