SC directs state to pay salary arrears

New Delhi, Aug 12: The Supreme Court on Tuesday, Aug 12 directed Bihar and Jharkhand governments to pay arrears of salary to Bihar State Road Transport employees within six months. The employees of Bihar State Road Transport Corporation were not being paid salaries since 1994 and later, the state government started paying 50 per cent of the salary under court orders.

The employees will get arrears of about 14 years.

A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, Justices P Sathasivam and J M Panchal also directed that in future the employees of the Corporation should be paid full salary.

The Bihar government has not been able to pay regularly to its employees due to financial crunch faced by the state.

Some of the employees are now with Jharkhand State Road Transport Corporation after bifurcation of Bihar.
