Rains continue after break in Nashik
Nashik, Aug 12: After respite, the incessant rains continued to lash the city and other parts of the district today.
Rains stopped last night and started again this morning. As a result, the Godavari and Darna rivers are still in spate.
After the release of water from Nandur-Madhyameshwar dam, the vehicular traffic on the Nashik-Aurangabad highway was affected near Chandori village since last night, as the road has been submerged.
Effectively, the vehicular traffic has been diverted via Nashik, Ojhar, Pimpalgaon and Niphad. A 27-member rescue team has been deployed at village Chandori as the village and neighbouring Nandur village are still waterlogged. The alternative Nashik-Mumbai road via Trimbak-Mokhada is also closed for traffic due to landslide. The work to clear the road is underway.
The district administration yesterday alerted people living in low-lying areas and along the banks of river Godavari to move to safer places.
Due to rains, Nandur-Mahyameshwar dam has released 88,592 cusecs of water till early today. It was followed by Darna (28,681 cusecs), Gangapur (22,689 cusecs), Kadwa (8,100 cusecs) and Palkhed (1,750 cusecs).
