Quake causes cracks in Chatham bridge in Andamans
Port Blair, Aug 12 (UNI) Cracks have appeared in three places on the the Chatham bridge which connects Chatham Island with Port Blair, after a tremor of 6.2 Richter Scale on Sunday, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands authorities confirmed today.
The bridge, which is now closed to heavy vehicles, has developed cracks due to the quake, Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman S N Jha told UNI.
The Island has second biggest wharf for the island-mainland and inter-island shipping and is the nearest from Port Blair, connected through Chatham Bridge.
The bridge is under the maintenance of Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works (ALHW).
