Press Club members stage demo

Karur, Aug 12 (UNI) Members of the local Press Club today staged a slogan shouting demonstration, demanding withdrawal of FIR filed against 18 jounalists here.

The demonstrators urged the Tamil Nadu Government to withdraw the FIR filed against the jounalists, following a clash between them and the employees of a private bus body building unit.

They alleged that the police, instead of booking the ''real culprits,'' had registered cases against the jounalists.

The clash occurred when a group of jounalists went to cover a fire mishap at the unit two days ago.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Union of Jounalists Tiruchirapalli unit President A J Bhaskaran and Tiruchirapalli District Press Club General Secretary L Shahnawaz urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to intervene in the issue and render justice to the jounalists. UNI RV SJ 1923
