One killed, 25 injured in Kishtwar firing

Doda, Aug 12 (UNI) One person was killed and at least 20 others were injured when police opened fire on protestors in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said here today.

''Defying curfew, hundreds of protestors came out of their houses, pelted stones and engaged into a clash with the security forces,'' the sources said.

''The police resorted to a lathi-charge and fired teargas shells to disperse the agitating mob in which one person was killed and at least 25 got injured,'' Deputy Inspector General of police (DIG) Doda-Ramban range H K Lohia told UNI asserting that ''the forces had to open fire in the air to control the situation as a large number of protestors defied curfew and lodged the demonstrations.'' Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kistwar, Riyaz Ahmed Zargar said the district administration has ordered a probe into the firing incident as no directions of firing were issued.

The protestors were agitating against yesterday's firing incident in Kashmir in which eight people were killed and 300 injured during the ''Muzaffarabad chalo rally.'' UNI XC VHB SK NS1447
