NRI signs contract with CDS for conducting Migration Study: Faleiro
Panaji, Aug 12 (UNI) State Commissioner for Non-Resident Indian Affairs Edwardo Faleiro today said he had signed a contract with the Centre for Development Studies (CDS) of Kerala for conducting a study on migration of Goans.
Mr Faleiro, interacting with the mediapersons here, said the CDS, the foremost agency in the country on migration studies, will collect the data on migration from Goa and analyse its impact on the social and economic situation of the state.
He said the study will contain reports on diverse subjects such as demography of Goa, migration from Goa, historical overview, internal and international migration, impact of migration on education and health, consumption and investment behaviour in Goa, migration and women, migration and the elderly, and rehabilitation of return emigrants.
The historical perspective of the study will focus on the regions like Mumbai, Karachi, East Africa, Portugal, UK, Myanmar, Macau, Middle East, USA and Canada, where the Goans migrated. The section is being prepared by the Xavier Centre of Historical Studies.
Mr Faleiro said the CDS has selected 6,000 households across the state on random sampling for survey and interviewing. Of which, 4,000 households had already been surveyed, while the data on the remaining 2,000 households will be completed this month. The preliminary report will be submitted by CDS by October end and the final report will be submitted in November next, he added.
