Pondy: Mandram threatens to observe black day
Puducherry,Aug 12: The Singaravelar Ilangargal Narpani Mandram on Tuesday, Aug 12 threatened to observe Saturday, Aug 16, the Independence Day of Puducherry, as a 'Black Day' to protest the alleged failure of the administration to construct houses for the tsunami victims of Periyakalapet, Chinna Kalapet, Kanagachettykkulam and Pillaichavady.
Mandram President Kumar told sources that the administration had promised to construct the houses for the tsunami-hit people of Kalapet Area several times, but nothing materialised so far.
If no positive steps for construction of the houses were taken or the true reason for the delay intimated, they would hoist black flags on the day.
He, however, clarified the agitation had nothing to do with the Black Flag demonstration already announced by a movement seeking to celebrate November one as the Independence Day instead of Saturday, Aug 16.
