Light rain, thundershowers cool Delhi, mercury drops to 30.5 Deg C
New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) Light rains and thundershowers in Delhi today plummeted the mercury in the Capital city, bringing respite to Delhiites from the sultry weather conditions.
After a warm and humid day yesterday, Delhiites woke up to a heavily overcast sky, which was followed by light rains in the afternoon.
Though only 0.8 mm of rainfall was recorded till 1730 hours, the light rains and thundershowers plummeted the maximum temperature from 35.8 Degree Celsius yesterday, to 30.5 degree, three Degrees below normal.
The sharp fall in mercury brought tremendous relief for Delhiites from the warm and humid weather despite the humidity being at a high level of 87 per cent.
The coolness in the air is likely to persist in the coming days with weathermen forecasting a few more spells of rain and thundershowers, some of them heavy, in the next few days.
''Current meteorological analysis also suggests fairly widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over Northwest India during the next 3 days,''the Met office said.
The Met office has forecast a generally cloudy sky the next 24 hours with a few spells of rain and thundershowers one or two of which could be heavy.
After a cool weather last week, caused by heavy rainfall, a bright sunlight, coupled with high humidity level of 92 per cent, yesterday led to a rise in maximum temperature to 35.8 Degree, two degrees above normal.
