Isaac Hayes was a dedicated Scientologist

Washington, Aug 12 : Isaac Hayes, the pioneering soul singer who died on Aug 10, was a dedicated member of the Church of Scientology.

Hayes is best known to a generation of younger fans as the voice of Chef, a popular character on 'South Park.'

However, Hayes quit the show in 2006, after an episode that mocked his religion - Scientology.

A co-creator of the show, Matt Stone, said that Hayes had come to him in tears.

"He said he was under great pressure from Scientology, and if we didn't stop poking at them, he'd have to leave," Stone said.
