Bangalore, Aug 12 (UNI) In the backdrop of the test series loss, Indian one-day team captain M S Dhoni today assured that the team will perform to its potential when it plays Sri Lanka in a five-match series beginning in Colombo on August 18.
Speaking to reporters at the conclusion of two-day practice session at M Chinaswamy stadium here for the one-day players who would join the rest remaining from the losing test side, the Captain said the team was ready for a brave fight.
"We look to do the best. We will try to perform according to our potential. The test series that we lost is a different ball game," he said.
When asked about Team losing 1-2 in the recently concluded test series against Island country, the dashing batsman said, "ODI team is completely different, you cannot compare performance of the test team from the ODI team." Asked how India would fare on the spin friendly wicket with Sri Lanka have better spinners in their side, Dhoni said fast bowlers would also have their say in the five-match ODI series.
On how the Indian team would counter the spin sensation Ajanta Mendis, Dhoni was not much forthcoming. "I cannot tell anything now, wait and see," he said.
The two-day camp went well with the players focused on batting and bowling.
Dhoni said absence of the injured Sachin Tendulkar would be felt. "Nobody can fill Sachin's place but we will overcome his absence by playing better," he said.
Earlier, the ODI specialists like Vice Captain Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina, Virat Kholi had batting and bowling practice besides attending the gym at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) here. Sachin's replacement Badrinath joined in the group this morning.
They would be leaving for Colombo from here tomorrow morning.
