New Delhi, Aug 12: On Tuesday Aug 12 two trains collided in the national capital region killing one and injuring five. The trains were running on the same track.
The incident took place at around 6 am when Padmawat Express hit Kalindi Express, which was running on the same track, from behind between Anand Vihar and Sahibabad railway stations, officials said. As per the initial reports one killed and four to five people were injured and they were rushed to a nearby hospital. Further details are awaited. The rear coach of the Kanpur-Bhiwani Kalindi Express was derailed due to the impact of the collision. The rail traffic on the route was disrupted. Rescue teams and senior officials have rushed to the spot, they added.
Senior Superintendent of Police Deepak Ratan said Kalindi Express and Padmawat Express from Faizabad were waiting for signals, halting on the same track at the Vihar bridge. Padmawat Express got the signal and collided with the Kalindi Express. He said the injured were admitted to the Narendra Mohan Hospital at Mohan Nagar.
Meanwhile, the Railway department sought police assistance for a probe into the accident.
