Security at Mecca Masjid strengthened due to terror threats

Hyderabad, Aug 11 (UNI) Closed circuit and static cameras were being installed at the historic Mecca Masjid here as part of heightened security in the wake of threats from terrorists, Andhra Pradesh Minority Welfare Minister Mohd Ali Shabbir said today.

Six metal door frames were erected and hand-held detectors were provided to security personnel to carry out checks, Mr Shabbir said after inaugurating the control room at the mosque, where more than 10 people were killed, following bomb blasts on May 18 last year.

Stating that the security for the mosque would be intensified, if necessary, he said 25 Home Guards were appointed additionally in the mosque.

The budget for maintenance of the mosque would be increased further, the minister added.
