Railways suspends 22 trains in Assam
Guwahati, Aug 11 : The North-East Frontier Railway authority has suspended around 22 night trains from tomorrow till Saturday next in view of possibility of subversive activities by underground militants in the run up to the Independence Day celebration.
The trains scheduled to move after 6.00 p.m. will leave the originating stations on the following morning.
Some other trains scheduled to enter Assam after 6.00 p.m. will be controlled suitably at different stations en route in night hours and start their journey to destinations the next day morning.
A high alert has been sounded all over the State in view of an 18-hour general strike called by the banned United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) and some other militant groups appealing the people to boycott the Independence Day Celebrations.
Security has been beefed up in all important installations including the parade grounds.
Intelligence agencies said that ULFA may try to carry out their subversive activities to make an impact on the Independence Day.
