Railways register increase in freight in first quarter

New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) Indian Railways carried 270.69 million tonnes of revenue earning freight traffic during April-July 2008, registering an increase of 23.30 million tonnes over the freight traffic of 247.39 million tonnes carried, during the corresponding period last.

During July 2008, the revenue earning freight traffic carried by the Railways was 67.69 million tonnes, which is about 5.81 million tonnes more than the freight traffic of 61.88 million tonnes during the same period last year, an official release said today.
