Punjab to reward 1 cr to Abhinav Bindra

{image-abhinav bindra_11082008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Chandigarh, Aug 11: The Punjab Government on Monday, Aug 11 announced a whooping amount of Rs 1 crore to ace shooter Abhinav Bindra for winning the Gold Medal in the 10-Meters Air Rifle shooting event at the Beijing Olympics Monday, Aug 11.

While announcing the award, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said that he had brought glory to the entire nation. "Bindra's achievement would give a major boost to Indian sport. He would surely become a role model for the budding players of our country to promote sports at international fora," he said.

The Chief Minister said that the Government would honour him on his return from Beijing and would give the award money of Rs 1 crore as per state government's sports policy.

The Chief Minister also called up Bindra's father, Dr AS Bindra, and other family members for his superb achievement.

Meanwhile, Member Parliament and SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal, Information and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia and Local Government and Industries Minister Manoranjan Kalia also congratulated Bindra for winninig the gold medal.
