City police arrest six rowdies

Chennai, Aug 11 (UNI) The city police foiled an attempt to eliminate a rowdy by arresting a six-member gang, belonging to the rival group at Teynampet area in the city last night.

Police effected the arrests during routine vehicle checks, which was intensified in the wake of muslim fundamentalists threat to trigger serial blasts in the State on Independence Day, and seized lethal weapons, including three sickles, wooden logs and a vehicle number plate from them.

The gang was on the prowl to eliminate a rival gang leader.

Those arrested were identified as Dayalan (28), Mani (24), Natarajan (34), Ganesan (23), Charles (26) and Chandrahaasan (28).

Four of them Dayalan, Mani, Natarajan, Charles were already wanted in connection with several extortion, murder and attempt to murder cases.
