Amarnath yatra suspended

Jammu, Aug 11 (UNI) The Amarnath yatra was today suspended due to inclement weather as landslides blocked the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, official sources said here today.

''Heavy rains lashed the entire Jammu region and national highway was blocked due to the landslides, forcing the authorities to suspend the yatra,'' an official spokesman told UNI.

However, the yatra has observed a steep fall owing to the ongoing agitation in Jammu and Kashmir over the Amarnath land row.

The yatra was flagged off on June 17 from here and would conclude on August 16 (on full moon night).
