Govt praises Haryana's rural sanitation campaign

Chandigarh, Aug 10: The Centre has appreciated earnest efforts being made by the Haryana Government to implement Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) in perspective in the state.

Union Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, in an official letter to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, has informed that Haryana would be declared as a fully covered state under the TSC.

The Union Minister in the letter is all praise for the Haryana Government for achieving the 100 per cent sanitation target in schools of the state. As per figures, the progress of constructing individual household toilets in rural areas was 28.66 per cent, which has increased to 84.97 per cent with the implementation of TSC in the State.

Works under TSC have been started in 92 per cent Gram Panchayats in Haryana.

Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Dharambir Singh said here today that the state was all set to achieve complete rural sanitation well ahead of the deadline set by the Union Government.

He said for the cleanliness of village ponds, bio management of ponds through Duckweed technology was being adopted and soakage pits were also being popularised for waste water mangement, besides adopting vermicompost techniques for solid waste management.
