Kerala-born percussionist aims to break his record in Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore, Aug 10 : An Indian artiste is all set to better his own record of 101 hours of playing the 'Mridangam' a traditional drum, non-stop in Tamil Nadu.

Kuzhalmannam G .Ramakrishnan, a 37-year-old percussionist from Kerala, who started his 'Mridangam Marathon' on August 1 will play it for 15 days up to August 15.

As per the Guinness World Records guidelines, Ramakrishnan is allowed a five minute break per hour.

Speaking to the media about his desire to better his record Ramakrishnan said, "I have already created a record of playing the Mridangam non-stop for 101 hours. I have the confidence of still bettering this record."

Thousands of music lovers from across the state thronged the venue to have a glimpse of this feat and Venuka was one of them.

"Nobody in the music field has ever attempted this type of record of paying Mridangam non-stop for 101 hours and above.

What's more interesting is that he (Ramakrishnan) himself is now attempting to break his earlier record which in itself is a unique attempt," said Venuka.

Ramakrishnan who runs a center for music in Kerala has the full support of his family in his endeavor.

This young artist who has performed in over 5000 stage shows has won several awards in appreciation for his talent.

Ramakrishnan had entered both Guinness and Limca books of world records in May 2005 by playing Mridangam (described as hand drum by Guinness) for 101 hours continuously at Kannur in Kerala. By Jehovah. G
